INTEGRATION is EVERYTHING! How do I bring the experience into my life?
A guide to integrating entheogenic experiences
1. Introduction: What is integration?
Welcome to the threshold of your return. You have been on a journey that went far beyond the limits of ordinary consciousness. But in transpersonal work we know: the vision is only the beginning. The true alchemy does not happen in the depth of the trance, but in the return to everyday life.
"Words are only seeds... meaning blossoms when it is rooted in experience."
Integration is the process of watering the sacred seeds you have been given. It is the conscious work of building the insights from a psychedelic experience into your daily life so that they do not fade as mere memories, but become lived wisdom. Without this process, the seeds stay dry. Only when they take root in your actions does their true meaning blossom.
We see these plants as entheogens, a term from ancient Greek (entheos, "god, divine", and genesthai, "to create"). An entheogen is far more than a substance. It is a force that "creates the divine within you". It serves to awaken spiritual insight and the innermost connection to the sacred, which often lies hidden beneath the layers of everyday life.
Why is integration important?
The ceremony does not end when the ceremonial space is closed. In fact, indigenous wisdom teaches us that the journey continues with every step and every breath. The time after the medicine is just as sacred as the hours of reflection, because this is where the actual healing manifests.
Integration is essential from a psychological and spiritual point of view:
- Grounding and the nervous system: After the massive expansion of consciousness, your nervous system has to process the new frequencies. Grounding does not only mean "staying in the body". It is a psychological necessity to avoid spiritual bypassing. You did not come here to escape this world, but to feel it more deeply.
- Embodying the mareación: The mareación is not just a collection of images. It is the visionary state and the "power" of the plant's effect. This power has to be translated into concrete life decisions. If the visions do not become flesh and blood, they remain fleeting dreams.
- Cultivating protection: At the end of a retreat you often receive a ritual to "seal" the energy for a short time, but this is a lifelong task. It is an energetic shield and a spiritual armour that you forge yourself through daily practice and devotion.
