Where and how is iboga grown?

11 October 2026

Iboga originally comes from Gabon, but has spread across the whole of Africa. A great deal of the bark on the market comes from overharvesting, because those selling it were not the ones who planted the trees 20 years ago. That is why you can buy iboga from the government in Gabon, or from small farmers and larger farms that own various medicinal plants. Shamans all over Africa who have enough give away some of their iboga bark. To get to them, I send out our scouts. They travel from Nigeria to Cameroon to all their connections and then report the results back to us, and we usually decide together what we buy where. Because he is on site and can often judge it better. In addition, thanks to our constant tests, we have been able to sort out the dishonest ones over the last 15 years and keep the good ones.
Unfortunately, the current bark from Iboga Store does not come from its own cultivation yet either, although they have had their own plantations in Ghana for a long time, but the young trees are only 10 years old and will therefore stay in the ground for as long again. That is what the plants need to build up enough wisdom within themselves. Earlier, in 2014, we still bought plants from other iboga farms, such as from BAT Ralf Vogtel. He runs a farm in Ghana. Today, Iboga.store runs its own plantations at the highest level, with soil preparation, electro gardening and so on.
But Iboga.store has its two scouts, who have been working with us for over 10 years. They know exactly what we are looking for, what we want and what is important to us, and then they set off for us and make the rounds of all their farmers, shamans and so on, and let us know before the purchase what is currently available; usually we make the final decision together. Then, after the purchase, the preparation for the analyses begins, and only then is it shipped to Europe.
